Darcy had surgery today to remove her adenoids and insert ear tubes. Things could not have gone any better. We arrived at 8:45 a.m. and they did our paper work. After a short wait they called us back and we met with the doctor and anesthesiologist. They went over the procedures one more time, and then I handed over my little baby to these virtual strangers. Hardest part of the whole ordeal.
The whole thing took less than 30 minutes and then we were called back to recovery. The doctor said that even though she has been on an antibiotic for almost a week, her ears were still full of thick, infected gunk. She said that they call that "glue ear" and that when it gets that bad it is hard for the antibiotic to penetrate. In any case, she drained the fluid and put in the tubes and removed her adenoids.
Darcy did great in recovery. Didn't even whimper, just kinda looked around like, "Hey, what's up?" She was a little out of it on the way home. She had a cup of juice when we got her home and then a banana and some yogurt. She took a four hour nap and perked up tremendously after that.
We still have a few days of various medications and a couple weeks until her adenoid surgery site is completely healed, but the worst is definitely behind us. So relieved to have the surgery over with and hoping for a much healthier, happier little girl in the coming months!
