About Us

Blake and I met our sophomore year at Florida State University in Dr. Richard Neumann's fiction writing workshop. We sat next to each other for almost the whole fall semester without really noticing each other. Then one day, we happened to pass while walking through campus. I waved, and Blake was so busy looking at me, he tripped on the curb. I thought that was so cute, that I decided I wanted to get to know him better. So that afternoon in class, I gave him my phone number.

He didn't call.

I had a story due the next week so I wrote what was on my mind, a story about a girl waiting for a guy to call her. I shared the story with the class and after reading it, Blake decided I was pretty gutsy for doing such a thing. He called me after class and asked me out to dinner. We went to dinner, then for a walk in a local park to see the Christmas lights, then for coffee at Dennys. Neither of us wanted the evening to end.

We've been together ever since.

After graduating from FSU, we got married (we had a beautiful wedding at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Ga.) and moved to Saginaw, Mich. to start our life together. At the time, Blake worked for Ferguson and I started out as a freelance writer and worked part time at Babies R Us. We met some great people during our time in Saginaw and learned a lot about being grown ups and being married. (We also learned what cold really meant!)

We moved back to Tallahasse in April 2005 and things really sped up from there. I finally got a full time job as a writer. We bought two houses (one in 2005, which we sold in order to buy our second house in 2009). We welcomed our first child, a daughter named Evelyn Grace, on July 31, 2008 and our second daughter, Darcy Elizabeth, on March 4, 2011.

In the summer of 2011, we decided to move again, this time to the Tampa area in order to be closer to family. So we rented out our house in Tally and headed south.

This blog is about our life together and the joys and challenges each new day brings.

Hello. I came across your blog while doing research for a Literature class I am taking in Colorado. I was researching significance of the name Mallard in the short story by Kate Chopin called Story of an Hour, and your blog was on the second page. I figured why not look and post a comment.
Congrats on your daughters recent graduation from preschool. And best wishes to you and your family.
