Just Like Mommy

After bath this evening, the girls wanted me to tuck their towels around them like I do after a shower. Grandpa introduced them to this idea when we were in South Carolina last weekend. They look WAY cuter than I do though!

New Jammies

The girls and I have enjoyed a quiet day at home today after such a busy (though fun) weekend on the road. Tonight they are wearing the new jammies that Grammy got them a couple weeks ago. I may be biased, but I think they look adorable!

Calvin is glad to have us home.

We drove 500 miles today and got in just after 8:30 p.m. As my mom always says, it's good to go away and it's good to come home. We had a great time, we're all looking forward to waking up in our own home tomorrow!

Lone Star BBQ

We are spending the weekend in South Carolina. Today Dad/Grandpa took us to one of our favorite restaurants up here, Lone Star BBQ, in Santee. There was a festival of some sort going on at the restaurant so we also got to listen to some bluegrass. Good food, good music, great company.

Our Pre-Kindergarten Graduate

Even though she still has a couple weeks of school, Evie's school held their spring program this evening, which included the pre-Kindergarten graduation. Evie looked so adorable in her cap and gown. We are so proud of our big girl and can't believe we have a Kindergartner already!

Follow Up

Darcy had her follow up appointment with our ear, nose and throat specialist this morning. Despite having a pretty nasty cold (she ran a low grade fever later in the day and has a cough and runny nose), the doctor was pleased with how her ear tubes and adenoid site had healed. She said this cold will be the first "test" of the tubes. Fingers crossed that she "passes" and is feeling better in a few days.

I went in my room to change and when I came back out, this is what the girls were doing. So stinkin'.sweet.

Snack

Evie's favorite snack lately has been a slice of bread. No butter or jam, just the bread.

New Suits

The girls debuted their new swimsuits today. Not only did they look adorable, they had a great time, too!

I picked the girls up early this afternoon after my seminar let out. It has been a very busy week and I haven't had much time with them so we made a pit stop at the playground to let loose and have some fun together.

Getup

It has become a nightly ritual for Evie to put on dress up clothes over her PJs. Her favorite lately has been this Cinderella costume.

Stool

We have three stools that the girls use to get to things they otherwise wouldn't be able to reach. This one is actually the stool for their vanity playset in my bathroom, but they like it because it is the tallest and so it gets dragged into the kitchen or other areas quite often. Today Darcy saw me washing my hands at my sink and decided she needed to wash her hands as well, and that is how this stool ended up where it is instead of tucked into the vanity like it is supposed to be. Who knows where it will end up tomorrow ...

Scene

I am at a Poynter Institute seminar this week on enterprise writing (long form journalism), and today we discussed creating scenes. At the end of the dat, hey sent us out to observe and write a scene. I picked this amazing sculpture by Gordon Huether to sit by and watch people interact with. Definitely not my typical Monday!

Mother's Day Swim

Busy Day

Today flew by in a whirl of errands and chores. I was trying to get everything done today so I can enjoy Mother's Day tomorrow. I'll also be attending a writing seminar at the Poynter Institute this week and that starts tomorrow evening as well. So really it was today or nothing 'til next weekend. I'm pooped. Gonna turn in early (for a Saturday night) so I'll be rested for tomorrow. 'Night!

Necklaces

Evie and Darcy were very excited to get these new "necklaces" (which were leftover from my birthday "luau" at the office yesterday). I have had a lovely birthday, sleeping in, shopping, lunch with my mom-in-law and lots of sweet messages from family and friends. Thank you everyone for making me feel so special today!

A "Fly" Start to My B-day

To kick off my birthday/Mother's Day weekend, my coworker Jamie and I headed over to Fly Bar (pictured above) in downtown Tampa for a couple of beers (and possibly a basket of fries ... ). It was so fun to be out on the town with a girlfriend for one evening instead of wrangling two little girls through our bath and bedtime routine. (Many thanks to Grammy and Pops for keeping the girls overnight so I can sleep in in the morning!)

A Little Stroll

It has been unseasonably cool here the last few days, which has been so nice. It was such a lovely evening that the girls and I decided to go for a bike/wagon ride.

Kids and Band Aids

 Darcy fell down this evening and scraped her knee. It barely bled, but she was very upset by the injury and kept clutching her knee and moaning "boo boo."

Thank God for Band Aids. Just saying those two magic words calmed her down, as it always does. After bath she got to pick one of these Mickey Mouse Band Aids and cover up her "boo boo" and all was right in her world again.

Of course, Evie had to have one, too, and came up with a pretend injury to her foot to justify it.

Play Pen

Lately the girls have loved to pile blankets and stuffed animals and books into the crib and play there together. Really is very sweet to watch these two becoming friends.

How they managed to get these on over their overalls is beyond me, but it sure looked cute.

The New W

Evie often sits with both her calves out, what is known as "w" sitting. I caught Darcy sitting like this tonight and figured it was her variation it.

In other news, Evie sang a little song in the car this evening that went like this: I'm scratching my foot with my other foot, oh yeah. Literally laughed out loud.

Ready?

Darcy stripped off her diaper this evening and put on a pair of Evie's underpants (and then put her shorts back on). I'm thinking she's ready for potty training ...
