Winter 2013

I don't know how, but we managed to get the winter issue out on time. Possibly my favorite cover we've done so far during my time as editor.

Elmo!

Grandpa did some decorating for Christmas while I was in Boston, including putting this glowing Elmo in our front yard. Darcy loves Elmo and got very excited to see him in our yard.

An Afternoon at Harvard

When my conference adjourned this afternoon, I went up to Harvard University and froze my butt off took the historical walking tour. The tour was given by two Harvard students (one from England with an awesome accent), which was really fun as they gave us little tidbits of what student life is like at the university. My favorite place was Widener Library (gorgeous architecture and all those books). A close second was Memorial Hall, which had gorgeous stained glass and woodwork. I even had my picture taken touching John Harvard's foot (or at least a statue of him), which is supposed to be good luck. We shall see ...

 Widener Library

Sever Hall (The archway there is apparently a whispering arch, where someone standing on one side can whisper into the wall and someone standing on the other side can hear.)

John Harvard's statue (which isn't really an accurate depiction of Harvard) in front of University Hall.

Johnston Gate, also known as the "kissing gate" as back in the day couples where the man went to Harvard and the woman went to Radcliffe had to kiss goodbye at the gate. There's a myth that if a student walks through the gate during his time at Harvard, other than when he first enters and after graduation he won't graduate. (One of the tour guides said he doesn't buy into it and has done it and is still on track to graduate.)

Gorgeous stained glass in Memorial Hall.

Russell House

After a two hour blackout stuck at the hotel, a few of my conference friends and I went to Russell House in Harvard Square for drinks and dinner. So. Much. Fun.

Firebrand Saints

Had a delicious dinner this evening at Firebrand Saints in Cambridge. Lovely glass of cabernet and the Complicated Salad with polenta on the side. Great food, great conversation, great day!
